Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice describes how DeWitt County Busted Mugshots handles information connected with visits, search-partner tools, and messages. The service links to the DeWitt County Sheriff and Jail, city departments, the Circuit Clerk, Judici, and Illinois DOC, but those agencies have their own systems and privacy rules once a visitor leaves this service.

Information Sent Directly

Search Terms

A name, place, or other value entered into a sponsored search tool is sent to the third-party provider that operates that tool. DeWitt County Busted Mugshots does not maintain a private search database or promise that the provider will retain or delete a query on a particular schedule. Review the provider’s own notice before using it.

Messages

If a visitor sends an email or message, the information is kept long enough to read, respond, and preserve a basic service record. Messages are not shared outside the operating organization unless disclosure is needed to comply with law, protect rights, or handle a security or abuse issue. Do not send medical information or identity documents through a general message.

Technical Information

Like many web services, a page request may produce ordinary technical data such as:

  • IP address or a shortened network identifier.
  • Browser type and version.
  • Device type and operating system.
  • Pages viewed and time spent on a page.
  • Referring page, when a browser supplies it.
  • Dates and timestamps for requests.

Cookies

Cookies or similar tools may help understand visits, keep features working, measure performance, or support advertising. A browser can block or delete cookies. Some features may work differently when a browser refuses them.

Why Information Is Used

Information may be used to:

  • Keep the service running and improve load performance.
  • Send a search request to the appropriate partner tool.
  • Understand which record-navigation pages are useful.
  • Find errors, abuse, and technical faults.
  • Show advertising that may be relevant to a visitor.

The service does not host official DeWitt County booking records. The Sheriff’s jail page, Circuit Clerk, and IDOC search are separate systems.

Links Outside This Service

Pages may link to a jail page, police department, booking or records source, government portal, court service, state locator, legal-aid resource, or a third-party search provider. After a visitor follows a link, the destination’s privacy policy and data practices apply. The private reference service does not control the destination’s content, security, cookies, uptime, or retention.

Advertising partners may use their own tools to measure activity across websites or select advertisements. Those systems are controlled by the partner, not by Sheriff Mike Walker’s office, the DeWitt County Jail, or this reference service.

Who May Receive Data

Personal data is not sold as a mailing list. Depending on the feature used, information may be available to:

  • Search partners that receive a query entered into their tool.
  • Analytics providers that measure visits and performance.
  • Advertising networks and their service providers.
  • Law-enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order or other lawful demand requires disclosure.

Official record custodians such as the Sheriff, police departments, Circuit Clerk, or IDOC receive information only when a visitor contacts or uses those separate systems.

Security Approach

Reasonable administrative and technical practices are used to protect information held by the service. No internet-connected system is completely secure, and no promise can be made that a transmission, account, or provider is breach-proof. A visitor should avoid sending more personal information than the request requires.

Visitors Under 18

The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly seek personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor submitted information, a parent or guardian may ask for it to be reviewed and deleted. A request should identify the message or data at issue without sending extra sensitive material.

Data Choices and Rights

Subject to applicable law and practical limits, a person may ask what personal information is held, request correction of an error, ask for deletion, or object to certain processing. Some technical logs must be retained for security or legal reasons, and a third-party provider may need to handle a request about a query sent to its own system. Requests should be specific enough to locate the information.

  • Ask for a copy of information held by the service.
  • Point out inaccurate contact or message details.
  • Request deletion where retention is not required.
  • Ask how to opt out of a particular processing or advertising feature.

Changes to This Notice

This notice may be revised when features, providers, legal requirements, or data practices change. A revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. Continued use after an update means the posted version governs future visits, subject to rights that cannot be waived.
